Performance Physical Therapy, Highbar’s founding practice, is located in the Smithfield Medical Center right off Route 44 in Smithfield. Close to the Smithfield Crossings and Apple Valley Plaza, this clinic is easily accessible for patients in the Smithfield and Johnston areas. The newly expanded clinic features a large open gym space and five private treatment rooms. We have clinicians who are Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialists, several clinicians who are certified in trigger point dry needling, and a vestibular specialist. Our clinicians and staff members all work hard to ensure each patient feels comfortable, motivated, and supported in their treatment plan so they can become the happiest, healthiest version of themselves.

Dr. Carolyn Rhoads PT, DPT has been the Clinic Director in Smithfield since 2016. She is a Doctor of Physical Therapy who specializes in orthopedics, spine, sports-related injuries, headaches, and balance and falls. She loves being a physical therapist because she can help patients return to what they love to do. She enjoys working with athletes of all ages and abilities, and has worked with the Performance Physical Therapy Speed School, a comprehensive sports training and conditioning program for athletes. She has earned certification in trigger point dry needling and has also worked with athletes training for the Special Olympics. When she’s not in the clinic, Carolyn enjoys traveling, working in her vegetable garden, spending time with her friends and family, and cheering on the Patriots.

Joshua Berry, ATC is a Certified Athletic Trainer who works with Smithfield High School and our Smithfield clinic. He is passionate about helping athletes get back on the field and playing the sports they love. In previous roles, Joshua has served as an Adjunct Professor of Wellness at Andrew College, where he was also an Athletic Trainer.
When he’s not on the sidelines, Joshua enjoys playing soccer, running, weightlifting, and creating LEGO masterpieces.
